Sora Miagetara “Looking Out at the World Exhibition”

This exhibition presents works by Satoco Yamamoto drawn from the perspective of a person standing on a street corner in Tokyo or New York City looking out at the world. These works attempt to connect with people across geographical borders and cultural lines through common life experiences in the city. For example, four drawings attempt to convey the psychological progression of one couple from childhood to adolescence and then to adulthood. Additionally, works related to sports are exhibited to honor the Olympics that will be held in Tokyo in 2020.
Satoco was born in Tokyo, Japan. She graduated from the Faculty of Human Sciences and Design of Japan Women’s University in Tokyo, Japan in 2002. She started drawing and painting from a very young age and received formal instruction from Mr. Makoto Yuasa, who is a landscape painter in the Shonan area of Japan. She designed the character “Morino Ko Michi” for the commercial bathroom tissue made by Marutomi Seishi Co., Ltd. in conjunction with the non-profit organization POINT GREEN. She currently sells various art products in hotels and shops such as the Karuizawa Art Box, Otowa no Mori Hotel and Sala Karuizawa Hotel in Karuizawa, the Kamakura Prince Hotel in Kamakura, the Verde Cana coffee shop in Tokyo, and at the Enoshima station in the Shonan area.
