Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning

Lincoln Center, the world’s largest performing arts center, in partnership with Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL) announces its Boro-Linc program in Jamaica Queens. Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL), in Jamaica, Queens, is the only Queens partner with Lincoln Center. The Boro-Linc program presents free family events from Lincoln Center’s resident organizations, aimed to make the arts more accessible and increase arts awareness and engagement for children and their families. In addition, JCAL’s unique multidisciplinary facilities offer additional educational opportunities to Queens families, such as Family Community Arts Workshops and the SWING Exhibition.

The exhibit SWING brings the ever-popular music to life with artifacts from the New York Public Library’s matchless collections. It covers the development of Swing from Black dance orchestras in 1920s into the big band sound, which continued in popularity during the World War II. This exhibit focuses on the impact of Swing on American society through contemporary artifacts of segregation and integration of both performers and audiences in recordings, theaters, clubs, and accommodations.
