This event has ended.

Booklyn presents a solo show of new work by Kelie Bowman. Drawing from her experiences living and working on a sailboat, Bowman has crafted a body of work inspired by watching light reflect on the ocean.

This series explores shifting depth and distance in a still medium through a multiplicity of angles in hopes that this will open the viewer’s perception of space and time. Bowman silkscreens washes of color onto paper, creating unique prints, then cuts each print apart into geometric patterns that, when sewn together, become shifting, moveable books and tapestries. Confronting this work, the viewer experiences a meditative and calming exploration of color, abstraction, depth perception and landscape.

The idea of “rising” runs through the work in the exhibition and takes many forms. We can speak of rising waters (floods), rising up for social justice, and emotions rising to the surface. Bowman reflects on these concepts in a new artist’s book, merging personal observations with political explorations through images and text.
