Dusty Boynton continues journey of love for painting and drawing by featuring new works in this exhibition, from April 9th to May 30th, 2015. Boynton’s works are jam packed with gestural energy and emotive content. They are spontaneous and raw, and paint flows across the canvas with wonton feeling and impulse. Whether it is paint on canvas or on paper, her works are layered with meaning. Some layers very subtle like the painting, “Us,” which has a minimal white background with two faces, appearing to be made from the same matter, and connected and disconnected simultaneously; their upper bodies are drawn with a grey wash of paint. A warm, platinum-like drawing in graphite accentuates the ubiquity of their relationship. Other works are packed with textural plains and shards of color, dramatizing the layered nuance and meaning, to be playful, poignant, sad, and even naughty at times, or all of these characteristics together.

The art historian Donald Kuspit, in a nutshell, describes Boynton as, “a masterful colorist and gesturalist, but above all her works are painterly drawings…sometimes gesture is there for its own pure sake, sometimes her grand brushstroke forms richly textured plains. Sometimes it functions as a mnemonic trace of pure feeling, sometimes as an atmospheric matrix for the image. It is uncannily urgent and ingeniously autonomous…whatever is pictorial function. Integrating fantasy and purity, Boynton produces memorable works evocative of memories that run deep in all of us.”

Before exhibiting with Denise Bibro Fine Art, Chelsea, NYC, Boynton showed at Littlejohn Contemporary, New York, NY; Gallery Jupiter, Little Silver, NJ; and Steffany Martz Gallery, New York, NY. Selected group exhibitions include In The Garden at Barbara Krakow in Boston, MA; New Prints, 2002 at the International Print Center, New York, NY; Book, Box, Word, Volume II at the University of of Florida and North Miami Contemporary Art Center. Her work has been reviewed in ArtNews, Art in America, The New York Times, Arts Magazine, New Art Examiner, Modern Painters, Architectural Digest, and The Wall Street Journal. Boynton’s work was also featured in the film, “Remember Me” with Robert Pattinson.
