AXELLE FINE ARTS GALERIE SOHO hosts JARDINS SECRETS (Secret Gardens) ERIC ROUX-FONTAINE’S 3rd US solo exhibition. After the success of Neverlandscape (Axelle Soho, 2012) and Lunar Park (Axelle Boston, 2013), Roux-Fontaine returns to New York City with a new collection of mixed media paintings. These recent works continue his exploration of the blurred line between reality and fantasy while introducing new themes, such as the undeniable connections between visual art, music and theater.

On the new collection, Roux- Fontaine states:

The starting point of each painting comes from all those small moments that make up life, something you’ve seen, something you heard on the radio, a place you’ve been a long time ago, something you dreamt about last night, something you can’t talk about but you’ll be able to paint! I use all those things in my painting; I draw my inspiration from all those particular times. In the end, the image is very simple yet full of many different hidden meanings.

Roux-Fontaine begins with sketches then applies thick layers of paint, pure pigment, marble powder and resin using brushes and spatulas. His dreamlike paintings are largely inspired by his travels throughout Central America, India and Eastern Europe, specifically to Borucan & Romani communities. Using lush colors and stunning detail, the artist’s paintings delicately balance reality and dreams, figurative and abstract genres. His paintings tell stories while uniting art, music, nature, humankind, theater and outer space.
