This event has ended.

Azart Gallery presents “More Than Words”, a group exhibition presenting the works of artists Ayad Alkhadi, C215, GILF, Josh George, Camomile Hixon, Greg LaMarche, Tim Okamura, Rocko, Rayna Type and Yumi Yamachita.

“More Than Words” is an exhibition that showcases the broad talents of a group of highly emerging and extremely established artists. This roster of talent, each with unique, deeply rooted ethnic, cultural, social and political backgrounds, explore the complex and powerful relationship between text and image.

Latifa Metheny, Director of Azart Gallery explains: “I have always been fascinated when visual art and language enter each other’s territory, creating art that drifts between the literal and figurative worlds.”

This select group of artists utilize their background and highly defined skills by employing their inspiration from the works of ancient manuscripts to modern day street and urban art. These elements of letter-based materials, calligraphy, graffiti, typography and more are cleverly juxtaposed with various usages of imagery.

This combination of text and imagery creates a compelling and powerful proclamation, tackling unsettling social and political topics, exploring new visual possibilities and blurring the divide between classical and cutting edge. Ultimately creating an enduring and timeless expression.
By exploring the various ways these artists choose to combine language and imagery in their art, we discover a manifestation of their original ideas formed into a powerful platform of interpretation and communication.

This exhibition highlights a broad spectrum of this border shattering expression located at the intersection where images, words and language meet.

“More Than Words” is a collaborative project between Independent Curator, Melissa McCaig-Welles and Latifa Metheny, owner of AZART Gallery.
