Soho Photo Gallery in its November show will feature the winning entries in the 11th Annual National Alternative Processes Competition, as well as exhibitions of alternative processes prints by artists of the Penumbra Foundation and artists of Soho Photo Gallery.
The 11th Annual National Alternative Processes Competition presents the winning images of photographers from across the United States. The images submitted for this competition utilized a wide range of alternative methods, including ambrotype, cyanotype, Van Dyke brown, platinum/palladium, photogravure, salt print, tintype, and wet-plate collodion, among others.
The juror for the 11th Annual Alternative Processes Competition was Joni Sternbach, a visiting artist at Cooper Union and a faculty member at both the International Center for Photography and the Center for Alternative Photography.
Sternbach commented:
“I had the pleasure of reviewing a stellar number of excellent photographs for this year’s competition. What we typically think of as ‘alternative processes’ now encompasses so many new techniques, concepts and materials, including digital, than ever before. The photography playing field is wide open and this year’s exhibition reveals the flexibility and range of the medium.”
