This event has ended.

The Kravets Wehby Gallery presents the opening of momCAVE a solo show of new work by Sydney Chastain- Chapman.

For Sydney Chastain- Chapman painting is a means to transform the monotony of everyday life into imaginery environments. The figures in her paintings serve as modern day female archetypes and their settings tell narratives of work, family, domesticity, while incorporating visual reflections of her own personal experiences. Mining her memories as a backdrop, Sydney’s work explores traditional notions of femininty and womanhood throughout history.

The idea for momCAVE is inspired by the solace Sydney experiences when she retreats to her studio and the responsibilities of her domestic life melt away. Each of the paintings in the show illustrate Sydney’s belief that women are the all-powerful nexus of their world with uniquely complex accomplishments. In a broader sense, momCAVE questions what it means to be a woman connected to our collective history.

Sydney Chastain-Chapman graduated from Hunter College and lives in New York. Her work has recently been shown at the Nassau County Museum of Art. This will be her fourth solo show at Kravets/Wehby Gallery.
