This event has ended.

In July, the gallery will feature the work of the 40 winners of the 20th annual juried National Photography Competition.

Soho Photo Gallery’s competition attracted over 1,750 images from around the country. Elizabeth Avedon, the independent curator and writer, is our competition’s distinguished juror. Paul Kessel was selected as the 1st place winner for his image titled Entering The Metropolitan Opera. Avedon said that, from first glance, she was taken with the image’s “somber beauty.” She added, “It stayed with me like the atmosphere of a 70’s era Winogrand scene. This image has an indefinite quality to it.”

Of all the selections, Avedon said, “the photographs accepted into the exhibition represent my interest and love for fine art photography as well as portrait, landscape, street and travel work.”

Yorgos Efthymiadis’ image Net was chosen as 2nd place and the 3rd place went to Mark Roussel for Finding and Losing My Father.

In the front gallery, on exhibit, is the 2nd annual B&H Event Space Portfolio Development Exhibition. The five month workshop series takes place at B&H’s Event Space and is run and organized by Deborah Gilbert and David Brommer. The series is taught by a variety of speakers including Soho Photo artists Lois Youmans and Sandra Carrion. The free workshops cover a variety of subjects, with an emphasis on preparing a portfolio for gallery submission. Previous participants have gone on to win competitions, publish books and have solo shows.
