This event has ended.

Planthouse present Halftone, a group exhibition featuring prints and drawings by artists working with systems, halftones, and Ben-Day dots. The halftone relies on an optical illusion: tiny dots that are blended into smooth tones by the human eye. Since William Fox Talbot first mastered halftone technology in the 1840’s and 50’s, photographic reproduction has been used in everything from newspapers, to commercial advertising, to fine art photography. The halftone is the basis of all photographic reproduction, and artists have long been stripping away and altering the systems that organize these dots, allowing them the discretion to subconsciously direct the eye of the viewer. Works by Tauba Auerbach, Grayson Cox, Forcefield, Nadja Frank, Glenn Goldberg, Anna Hepler, Erik Hougen, Butt Johnson, Roy Lichtenstein, Jenny Morgan, R. H. Quaytman, Adam Raymont and Gibb Slife will be included in Halftone.
