This event has ended.

Bushwick artist and gallerist Mary Judge, of Schema Projects, and Brooklyn artist Gilbert Hsiao have distilled their visual vocabularies into an austere grammar based on the circle and the square. Inspired by the formal simplicity of the Suprematist Movement, founded by Kazimir Malevich in 1913, they use these elemental forms as their jumping off point. Updating the tenets of Suprematism, these two artists move into maximalist paintings employing figure ground reversals, pattern and optical diversions. ODETTA gallery will be presenting fresh new paintings from both artists.

Victory Over the Sun will open during Bushwick Open Studios on Friday June 5, with a reception for the artists scheduled for Saturday June 6, from 6-8 pm. This exhibition also celebrates the first anniversary of ODETTA gallery. On Sunday June 7, from 1-6 pm there will be a series of bands performing, curated by Bushwick artist Max Yawney, of the Unglued Radio Workshop.
