Janet Borden, Inc. presents 31 ESSENTIAL ITEMS, Neil Winokur’s listicle guide to daily living.
Neil Winokur is widely known for his deadpan rendering of dogs, people, and things. Objects that the artist deems essential for everyday functioning will be shown, from comestibles to grooming products. The straightforward pose of the object against a brilliantly monochromatic color background is Winokur’s signature style.
In bright saturated color prints Winokur presents these items with a Pop aesthetic. Centrally placed and singular, the objects become a collection of information—the subjects are monumentalized, but not idealized.
