“Baez offers an innovative chapter in contemporary painting in ciphering her art via a modernist work of literature within a postmodernist framework.”. – Raul Zamudio, Ut Pictura Poesis: On Claudia Baez’s PAINTINGS after PROUST.

The artist most recent series, ELEGIES, is built around Baez’s passion for Pablo Picasso’s Early Works. Elegy I is a striking interpretation of La femme en Bleue, Madrid , 1901; Elegy II – is a twist on Picasso’s famous portrait of Russian dancer Olga Khokhlova (Olga in an armchair, 1917) whom he met at The Ballets Russes and who became his wife and the mother of their son, Paulo; Elegy III depicts Picasso’s portrait of his young son Paulo, The Young Bullfighter from 1925 and Elegy IV is a vivid take on The Family of Saltimbanques from 1905.

Baez earlier series, Paintings after Proust (2014), is currently on view in a Solo Exhibition at Carillon Gallery, Tarrant County College, Fort Worth Texas, November 12 - December 10, 2015.

CLAUDIA BAEZ has been exhibiting in New York since 1987-89. She has a MFA in painting from The New York Studio School (created by Ms. Whitney Vanderbilt). Her first solo show in New York since 2003, Paintings After Proust, was held at ART 3 in October 2014 and was curated by Anne Strauss (formerly of the Metropolitan Museum of Art).
