This event has ended.

Turn Gallery present Iranian-American artist Kimia Ferdowsi Kline’s solo exhibit, Landscapes for the Hungry, Kline explores her deep-rooted desire to connect East with West, weaving the personal with the mythological, inviting us into her dreamlike layered compositions. Kline, whose family was exiled from Iran before she was born, reaches for an unseen heritage, not in nostalgia, but in a desire for common ground. Lush strokes of vibrant oil on panel or paper, her landscapes are a kind of paradise where ghost-like figures appear, questioning the relationships between man and nature. The paintings seamlessly blend the familiar and foreign with a gentle nod to globalization. Assembled from family stories, found images, and archetypal symbols such as the River Jordan and the Silk Road, her paintings become arenas for experience—a way to participate in a time and place she is barred from otherwise. Transporting us through her evocative pathways, we are led to a core desire to connect with our own homeland, however different or familiar.

Kline was recently named by Cultured Magazine as “the painter to watch” in the article On the Verge in their 2015 summer issue. She was also honored to be awarded The Basil Alkazzi Residency through The New York Foundation for the Arts.
