This event has ended.

An exhibition of impressive, complex paintings by Bruce Dorfman – stunning colorful abstract assemblages that ignore conventional spatial boundaries — will open at the June Kelly Gallery .

Dorfman, whose well-established exhibition history exceeds more than four decades, has devised an abstract language of his own that underlines his dual focus in creating a strong art experience through geometric structure and through intriguingly sensuous luminosity. Dorfman has said that throughout his long career he has sought cohesive tonal quality within the dominant color and borders of his paintings. Having achieved that cohesion, Dorfman now has moved away from the hard-edged border of his previous work, explaining that he wanted to see if they could be taken to the brink of disorganization, without a loss of coherence. “There is a kind of informed intuition that I trust to drive my art,” he comments.

Dorfman’s innovative and provocative painting often reflects his defiance of surface order by his scrambling of rational space layers into additional visual planes. There is a physicality and a redefinition of space in his constructions, along with mundane, discarded and perhaps disparate objects. There is also an emphasis on risk, as Dorfman continues to seek ways to extend every potential for an even stronger art experience.

He also is attracted to the expressionistic possibilities of interactive reflections and a kind of open-ended energy and dialogue.
