VICTORI + MO presents Dinner For Breakfast, an exhibition of works by Miriam Cabessa, Langdon Graves, Peter Lapsley, Julian Lorber, Joe Nanashe, Nic Rad, Brian Willmont and Frank Zadlo. This exhibition marks the opening of VICTORI + MO’s new gallery space in Brooklyn’s notable 56 Bogart building. The expansion to Bushwick coincides with the gallery’s ongoing mission to support emerging art and artists.

Since birth, it’s ingrained in us that there are certain pathways we can take in order to be successful. We’re often told that doing well in school, attending a renowned university and working a prominent internship will land you a reputable job and lead to a life of prosperity and comfort. However, we are rarely told that the journey towards this ideal never plays out according to plan. We succeed, we fail, we succeed again and we fail again. We embark on these monotonous patterns and redundant paths, some lead to perfection in craft and others towards self-destruction. We celebrate the victories and learn from the failures, but truth be told, there will never be one distinct channel towards the personal and professional freedom most seek. The various patterns we repeat and pathways we take all lead toward some final landing and truth, but the intertwined makeup of these journeys are what compose the unique blue prints of our lives.

Dinner for Breakfast alludes to the unusual patterns, order, trajectory, and unconventional results of blind ambition — each of which serve as another stroke on the paintings of our individual stories. The specific courses of action we’ve taken often dismissed the standard rubric and the embarkation towards alternate roads quickly became a hunt for greater tangibility. In a perverse reversion to the gallery mean, VICTORI + MO has reached the day where it can proudly open its first physical doors almost 3 years after its proverbial ones. This space’s opening marks an official culmination of the alternate pathways taken and patterns repeated across the gallery’s founders and the gallery’s artists, to whom we sincerely owe everything.
