This event has ended.

Rebecca Hossack Gallery presents Piers Bourke: The Philatelist, a solo exhibition featuring new works by British artist Piers Bourke.

Bourke’s works play with space and form. Combining heightened photographic images with three-dimensional structures (sometimes organic and random, at other times geometric and ordered) Piers Bourke’s works are challenging re-interpretations of reality. Sourcing iconic imagery from rare historic stamps, Bourke creates grid-like collages, hand-finished with elements of acrylic, ink, and diamond dust. The individuality of each edition is underlined by the shared starting point of each series – a magnified photograph of a postal stamp.

“By extracting images and assembling them without regard to the normal external world,” Bourke explains, “I can create environments and spaces that escape logic but retain uniformity.”

The Philatelist will include works from Bourke’s celebrated “Lick My Rear,” “A Boy Named Sioux,” and “Sen” series, and will debut work from Bourke’s most recent “Frank the Buffalo” series.

Piers Bourke studied at the Chelsea College of Art and Design and the University of the West of England Bristol, where he received a BA in Fine Art in 2001. He went on to the University of the Arts, London, where he earned a MA in Design. His work has been shown in several solo exhibitions across London, as well as group exhibitions in the UK, US, France, Ireland, Hong Kong, and beyond. This will be his first solo show in New York.
