This event has ended.

Cajsa von Zeipel is recognized as one of the most exciting and highly regarded sculptural artists to emerge from Europe in recent years and has been the subject of numerous group and solo exhibitions. Often towering above life size, her meticulously chiseled plaster sculptures of predominately young, lean, and fiercely attired women, girls, or androgynous figures both fascinate and intimidate. In all their stillness, they deflect objectification and invert the vulnerability of sexualized, revealingly dressed bodies into a fantastical dominance and power.

Referencing fashion and club culture, arenas where gender identity is lavishly performed, her aesthetic is simultaneously appealing and disturbing. Borrowing the old hierarchy between admiring viewer and the gloried, heroic figure rendered in white marble in classical sculpture, von Zeipel sutures that relationship to issues of contemporary gender politics and relations of power; even their go-go platform boots and sky-high heels function as an update of the classical device of the plinth, raising them above us, their admiring, or fearing, subjects.
