This event has ended.

My American Dream (prologue) is a three painting series of works by Keith Mayerson, that performs as a romantic “first act” for his upcoming salon-style non-linear narrative My American Dream, to be exhibited in the Stuart Comer section of the 2014 Whitney Biennial. The first work is a diptych of the artist and his husband, Andrew, rendered from photographs taken by studios when they were small children. The second painting of the series is Superman, based on the first 1941 cartoon by the Fleischer Brothers that defined the iconic character for generations. The last painting of the series depicts, from the artist’s own photo and POV, sunlight beaming down as Mayerson and his husband relax together in rafts at the pool below their modest cabin in Perris, California.

Keith Mayerson was a Semiotics and Studio Art major at Brown University, and received his MFA from University of California, Irvine 1993. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Los Angles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, Washington D.C., and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He lives and works in New York City. This will be his seventh solo exhibition with the gallery.
