RESOBOX Gallery presents the “KAIJU Art Exhibition”.

“Kaiju” is a well known Japanese word meaning [monster]. A staple of Japanese sci-fi movies (Tokusatsu-Eiga) like Godzilla, Gamera, and the Ultraman series, these monsters are huge and threatening; bigger than skyscrapers and extraordinarily powerful.
Kaiju are very destructive and terrifying. But unlike other monsters, Kaiju have a very clear raison d’être: In their inherent quest to be Gods or Devils, their fate turns on their wrest with humans. In spite of their power, their destiny is in the choices made by their victims whose animistic ideas are a theme in Japanese culture. Their presence is associated with deeply religious views from the animism in Japan.
In its tribute to this singular Japanese iconography, RESOBOX brings artworks from the world over which place the concept of Kaiju at center stage. In this exhibition, artists come to NYC from the whole of the world with their own “Kaiju”art works, that source of inspiration from the huge shadow of “Kaiju”.
