This exhibition marks the first duel solo show of the two artists. The work exemplifies the artists’ continued fascination with light, color, form and motion. The couple lives and creates in upper Manhattan where their urban environment has a profound influence on the work they make. The level of their productivity is impressive considering their full-time jobs, daily commutes and other life demands. It is exhilarating to see their abundant energy as they produce fresh and engaging work despite the setbacks.

Stephen Cox is firmly rooted in music and finds his stride using staccato brush strokes with sumptuous oil paint. He is inspired by the paintings of abstract expressionists Joan Mitchell and Milton Resnik. He says “the New York City experience is increasingly about an overload of sensory stimulation, and that one of the first artists to synthesize the noise into a personal visual style was Mark Tobey.”

Stephen Cox (born in Florida) completed his BFA at the Columbus College of Art and Design. His art has been shown in many exhibitions in the United States and abroad including his most recent solo show of drawings held at The Garrison Art Center in 2013. He has produced three music CD’s featuring his guitar work including Cobalt Blue released in 2011.

Arezoo Moseni explains “the choice of using ink, photographic sensitizer and red wine is a reflection of my romance with living breathing organic materials.” The magical maze of lines made with these liquid materials result in imaginary floating forms. Differentiating flatness from depth, concave from convex, interior from exterior, the organic from the architectonic and the abstract from the representational are among the challenges posed by her meticulous and subtle practice. “Geometry, chemistry and motion are the engines that fuel my work and drawing is the foundation of everything I do including my photographic work,” she says.

American artist Arezoo Moseni (born in Iran), received a BFA at Utah State University, a MA and MFA at the University of New Mexico, and a MLIS at Pratt Institute. Her work has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad, and it is held in numerous public and private collections including the Brooklyn Museum, Bibliotheque nationale de France, Mead Gallery and Musee de La Photographie. She is the recipient of several fellowships and grants including the Carnegie Corporation of New York | New York Times award, Yaddo Fellowship and Artists Space Independent Project grant.
