This event has ended.

Inspired by the fractures resulting from fingerprints left by his children on digital surfaces, Kienke’s work explores the relationship between representation and abstraction, televised identity, stereotype, and the changing role of materiality in post- modern aesthetics. Kienke creates modular works through a process of repeated application of layers of paint and digital images, which he terms a “glitch” aesthetic, drawing on the concept of the pixel as both a metaphor and subject matter.

Kienke earned his BFA in illustration at Kansas City Art Institute, and his MFA in painting at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Kienke’s work has been widely exhibited, including the2009 Brussels Biennial, the 2011 Florence Biennale, and the 2012 Verge Art Fair, among many others. His work is included in both public collections, such as the Sharjah Art Museum in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Savannah College of Art and Design, the United Kingdom National Collection (The Hospitalfield Centre for Art and Culture in Scotland), and ABN Amro Bank in Dubai, as well as private collections in the United States, the United Kingdom, the UAE, Vietnam, Canada, and the Netherlands. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Art and Design on the graduate faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
