ISE Cultural Foundation presents “ISE NY Art Search 2013 Award Winners Exhibition” featuring Isa Ho, Yutaka Kamiyama, Tomoo Nitta, Shu Ohno, Manju Shandler, and Mayu Shiomi.
Taiwanese artist, Isa Ho creates layers and a sense of three-dimensionality in her photo images. She talks about the ambiguous self-awareness and the singularized value outlook observed in today’s world. Yutaka Kamiyama who defines himself as “Ocean Sculptor” presents a series of sea creature work. Kamiyama’s concern about natural environment makes him learn and observe how each creature moves in order to create movable wood sculptures with amazing craftsmanship. Nancy Lim Award winner, Tomoo Nitta is showing a series of three “Golden Ball” video works, which are questioning people’s struggle between conscious and unconscious in their social life. His video will be shown within the site-specific, interactive installation. At this exhibition, “Erosion” and “Multiplication” are the main concept for New York based artist, Shu Ohno. Ohno accumulates various objects and transforms them into oddly organic work by removing the function of the objects. Another New York artist, Manju Shandler is a visual storyteller. Shandler is creating a new visual mythology that explores the process of mankind corrupting the natural world in pursuit of progress. Mayu Shiomi constructs the contemporary story which is directly linked to us by using familiar characters in fast food world such as Ronald McDonald in McDonalds and Wendy in Wendy’s.
