This event has ended.

Collages of Western urban environments and Asian culture through fantasy-driven images.

My work portrays life as a nomadic journey by employing various lightweight paper and fabrics that are easy to carry and work with while relocating.

Since I have maintained a lifestyle across different cities, I am particularly interested in relationships between people from different cultures and backgrounds. To deliver the narratives, animals and young girls often appear as main characters in my drawings, backed with scenes of mysterious atmospheres. Through these fantasy-driven images, I embody a hybrid of western environments and Asian culture, as well as express interaction and understanding among people from various cultural and racial backgrounds.

Suyeon Na was born and raised in Seoul, Korea and moved to New York in 2007. Her work has been internationally and nationally exhibited at many venues in New York, Korea, Japan and India, including Chashama Gallery, SCOPE New York, Hangaram Art Museum in Korea, Studio Kura gallery in Japan, and Jawahar Kala Kendra Arts Center in India. Na has been awarded artist grants by both Vermont Studio Center and Contemporary Artists Center residency. She is currently a resident artist of the Chashama Visual Arts program in Brooklyn.
