A set of automatic sliding glass doors face one another in the center of the gallery space. Both sensors facing inward, their synchronous movements arrest each other, and the two remain locked in a staggered, perpetual standoff. Subtle alterations to the architecture of SIGNAL establish an airless backdrop for this endless pas de deux: the familiar longitudinal beams in SIGNAL’s ceiling have been painstakingly lateralized; light fixtures dropped to the custom-fabricated height of the doorways; wall-markings, scrapings, and support brackets seem to suggest the structural residue of long-abandoned usage.
