Solange Knopf “Spirit Codex”

This event has ended.

The first drawing we ever saw by the artist was done on an old page of poems by French poet, Charles Baudelaire.   Our antennae were up immediately.  The small drawings arrived and they were exquisite intricate commentaries on the old papers they were made on and the sensibilities of the poems.

We were not prepared for the next set of drawings that arrived.  Some of them were five and six feet long, and executed in delicate and dramatic colors. They were scrolls of an acutely self-aware female psyche unafraid to transmute archetypes into personal but not obscure dreamscapes.  Deceptively beautiful, they are completely honest in their confrontations between that beauty and the darker aspects of a soul’s survival in a seductive, often sensual world.

The exhibition will present drawings from two series, Spirit Codex and Behind The Darkness, both begun in 2012 and continuing into the present.
