This event has ended.

Garth Greenan Gallery presents Matthew Palladino, an exhibition of paintings. The exhibition is the artist’s first solo-exhibition in a New York gallery. Eight of the artist’s brightly colored, meticulously painted works will be on view, as well as a selection of related drawings.

Palladino’s recent paintings are made from life-sized casts of found objects. Things as seemingly disparate as handcuffs, banana-scented flytraps, and ice cream sprinkles are carefully reproduced in plaster and then hand-painted in brilliant, matte acrylics. These objects reemerge transformed—like turbocharged, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth versions of their former selves—either arranged in neat rows or scattered “randomly” across monochromatic grounds.

Born in San Francisco in 1985, Matthew Palladino studied painting at the California College of the Arts. He has had solo-exhibitions at Baer Ridgway Exhibitions (2010, San Francisco) and Eli Ridgway Gallery (2011, San Francisco). In 2011, Palladino had a two-person exhibition at New York’s Fredericks & Freiser. Recently, his work was acquired by the Whitney Museum of American Art.
