This event has ended.

Where will the next great artist or writer be discovered? The first place to look is the Art.Write.Now. 2014 National Exhibition from June 5–14 at two New York City art galleries.

The exhibit of 500+ works of art and writing from the nation’s most creative and promising teens who won a national Scholastic Art & Writing Award will be housed at both Parsons The New School for Design’s Sheila C. Johnson Design Center and Pratt Manhattan Gallery (details below). Audiences of all ages will be inspired and catch a first glimpse of where American teenagers will take art and writing in the future because within the exhibits, there could be the next great abstract artist, photographer, novelist, fashion designer, poet or filmmaker.

Lena Dunham, Red Grooms, Tom Otterness, Andy Warhol, Stephen King and Joyce Carol Oates are among those who were recognized by the Awards years before making their mark. A Scholastic Award marks a defining moment in the careers of these young artists and the works live on to be compelling pieces by talented artists and writers for years to come. For example, Robert Indiana won a Scholastic Award in 1946 for his painting, which was included in the catalogue of his retrospective at The Whitney this past fall.

Presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers (the non-profit that oversees the Awards), the artwork displayed ranges from photography to fashion design to sculpture, and winning writing will be included through the use of Kindles and speakers set up in a the whimsical way of cans hanging from strings to evoke memories of playing telephone when we were young.
