“Leather Japan 2014” Exhibition
Thomas Erben Gallery
This event has ended.
The Leather Japan exhibition showcases a group of select works from the fields of fashion, craft work, and art, ranging from ancient Japanese traditional artifacts to everyday goods and artistic works that exemplify the contemporary craft, with the aim to convey to the world the deep allure of Japanese leather goods, known for their high craftsmanship and top caliber artisan technique and sensibility.
For this special exhibition, held in collaboration with More Trees, a project that supports symbiosis with nature and animals, ten contemporary artists from Japan and abroad have created original pieces using the hide of sika deer, harvested in Japan. These works will be exhibited together during New York Fashion Week at international New York contemporary art gallery, Thomas Erben Gallery.
The exhibition is a valuable chance to experience the long-accumulated, historic flow of the culture of leather within the Japanese cultural climate, from the Edo Period to the modern day.
