This event has ended.

This is Mickilowski’s seventh solo exhibition at the Fischbach Gallery.
When the Early Renaissance master, Giotto, was serving as a studio assistant, early in his career, he painted a fly on the face of a man in a painting. The next day Giotto watched as the Master Painter spent several minutes attempting to shoo the fly away. The master had fallen victim to the ancient joke of Trompe l’Oeil.

Trompe l’Oeil is the age-old fascination with illusions, In Now You See It, Denise Mickilowski portrays arrangements of flowers displayed within “hand-made” wooden containers, creating an alluring combination of sumptuous bouquets and wood grain texture that have an arresting appeal to the curious eye. The deceptive strategy of recessed, open wooden boxes draws the viewer in for closer inspection, intensifying the intimate exchange between viewer and artwork. It is Mickilowski’s careful attention to balance between form, volume, color and illusionism that celebrate the paintings of Now You See It.
