This event has ended.

Envoy enterprises presents Monoliths, Micki Pellerano’s second solo exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition premiers a new body of large-scale graphite drawings that emphasizes the significance of architecture and its monumental impressions upon the human psyche.

Monoliths marks a shift in Pellerano’s figurative subject matter from the elaborately mythological to the austerities of a structure both encapsulating and emblematic. Representational motifs reference the artist’s history in experimental theater and his devotion to studies in classicism as well as eastern and western occultism.

In these new works, the artist examines the spaces where private psychic experience extends beyond the reaches of the body and intellect. Where potent, yet scarcely detectable, phenomena of the subtle regions exert their influence over collective thought and cultural behavior. His philosophy identifies such forces, as solidified in architectural form by the monolith in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, as the driving energy behind the evolutionary processes of the human mind and its capacities.

Also on view are a series of seven small-scale nudes, occupy the aforesaid astral portals remotely, suspended in void-like scenery as they endure transitional stages of corporeal release.
