El Museo del Barrio’s Making Connections program offers in-depth, multi-session residencies designed to link El Museo del Barrio’s cultural resources with curricula in learning settings beyond El Museo. Each partnership consists of an El Museo teaching artist collaborating with educators from partnering public schools and organizations.
Throughout the program, El Museo del Barrio teaching artists and museum staff work closely with educators from each partner school or organization to design and implement programs that enable participants to develop and apply their visual literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills in order to further explore their culture and identity. The partnerships culminate in a year-long exhibition at El Museo. This exhibition celebrates the art and diversity of the participants, while exploring their connections across New York City. On May 17, 2014, the young artists had the chance to share their work with their families, friends and the general public as part of our Super Sábado programming.
