Hedwig Brouckaert “A Knot, A Tangle, A Blemish in the Eternal Smoothness”

poster for Hedwig Brouckaert “A Knot, A Tangle, A Blemish in the Eternal Smoothness”

This event has ended.

In a knot, a tangle, a blemish in the eternal smoothness, Hedwig Brouckaert methodically distorts, dissects and re-contextualizes the human form in mass media imagery. Taking magazines and catalogs as source material, she abstracts familiar images by tracing, cutting and layering bodies and hair in her collages and drawings. The vibrant site-specific installation on view at Kentler is stitched together using the artist’s own hair- a material by which she boldly injects herself into the rebuilding process. A brochure with an essay by Katy Diamond Hamer accompanies the exhibition.
