This event has ended.

Ian Pedigo’s spring solo exhibition at Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery will include a new group of sculptures and wall works that engage with interpretations of the artifact and their preservation in context of the archive or collection. The work’s references avoid simple categorization and span a range of domestic, quasi-historic and primitive modes of arrangement and presentation. Feathers, Tupperware, distressed wood, and bound books are exhibited in formal compositions reminiscent of statuary and archaeological finds. Loaded with a social-anthropological aura, Pedigo’s sculptures incorporate not just the objects on display, but the display systems themselves. Plexiglas boxes are colored with theatrical lighting gels. Pedestal-like structures raise, confine and frame their assemblage compositions, creating both boundaries and connections between individual works while anchoring them solidly into the museum/gallery context.

Ian Pedigo was born in Anchorage, Alaska and holds an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin. He currently lives and works in New York City. Pedigo has shown domestically and internationally for the past 10 years, most recently presenting a solo exhibition at the Abrons Art Center in New York as well as group exhibitions in Los Angeles, Brussels, and Florence.
