In his book Pictures and Tears, art historian James Elkins writes, “Tears belong to a twilight tribe of thoughts so dim we barely know them.”
Crying: Tears and their Traces seeks to excavate this ‘dim twilight.’ The group exhibition brings together a range of artists whose works engage with themes of intense emotion, while others explore the encounter of being moved to tears. Curator and newly appointed Rox Gallery Director, Charlotte Farrell’s research for her doctoral dissertation on being moved to tears by art and performance culminates in The Crying Show’s collection.
