Piccinini’s dark emotive paintings are rooted in the mysteries and complexities of her feelings and fears. The fugitive light dances across the canvas, the manifestation of a mutable inner landscape.
Amalia Piccinini moved to New York in 2005, where she studied at the Art Students League. This is her 4th solo show in New York. She was awarded the Wolf Kahn & Emily Mason Foundation grant for her curatorial project, “Going Into the Dark” at The Painting Center in 2013.
“My own process consists in the conceptual idea of trapping pieces of life and time in the canvas through colors and surface treatments.”
