The Grady Alexis Gallery at El Taller Latino Americano presents “New York: City and Nature,” an art exhibition featuring the work of Sidney Harris, Antoinette Janecki and Toni Serio, three artists who, inspired by New York, approach figurative painting in entirely distinct ways.

Sidney Harris creates expressionistic, large-scale paintings inspired by the vibrancy of life in New York City. He is best known as a cartoonist whose work has been published in numerous magazines, books and journals including American Scientist and The New Yorker. Harris obtained his degree from Brooklyn College and attended the Art Students League of New York.

Antoinette M. Janecki is known for her vivid landscapes and dramatic marine paintings. She works in small scale, capturing the best of the two worlds she resides in, New York City and Greenport, Long Island. Janecki studied with Master pastelist Richard Pionk and is a Juried Associate of The Pastel Society of America. Her work is exhibited locally and nationally and she has received awards from the Westhampton Outdoor Art Show, the Washington Square Art Exhibition and the Art Students League.

Toni Serio paints the vast spaces of upper Manhattan in a celebration of nature within city life that includes parks, bicyclists, picnickers and the George Washington Bridge. Serio received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a MFA from Yale University. Awards include the Alice B. Kimball Traveling Fellowship, a Yale Tuition Scholarship and the MTA–Artists Unite Subway Elevator Poster Project, he has received grants from NoMAA, Change Inc. and the Drawing Center.
