I recently remarked to some out of town visitors after a trip to Dia Beacon, “It’s much harder to see the art that isn’t there.” Which is what all art is about. When Monya suggested I “curate” a show for her gallery, I suggested the title “Absent Friends.” The audience which artists aspire to, those who are no longer here or perhaps never were.
