Hypnagogia will include sculpture, paintings/drawings, a wall-sized installation, a limited edition, four-color screenprint and a small run of toys/sculptures. Longo’s works are masterful ruses, often employing materials or processes that we associate with The Innocuous in order to charm us into letting his pieces’ soft strangeness creep more slowly into our psyches. He obliterates any vestigial discussion of high vs. low or art vs. craft by successfully co-opting the strategies of all of them, rendering those distinctions both pointless and uninteresting - especially in comparison to the pink sphincters and buck teeth he’s putting in front of us.
