Deciphering the way in which cultural information is distorted, filtered, interpreted and ultimately circulated through an online presence is what constitutes Ryan Lauderdale’s structural vernacular. Mining what the artist describes as a hybridization of the past, Lauderdale attempts to resurrect ‘dead’ objects encountered online and archive them in such a way that binds those haunting relics into a physical manifestation. His objects and installations call to mind a myriad of influences, including but not limited to; mall design, minimalist sculpture, utopian architecture and 70s chrome furniture. Lauderdale will present a new series of free-standing and wall-reliant sculptures that continue his thesis of communicating the virtual sublime via physical means.

Jessica Sanders’ paintings and objects chart the physical processes that govern how materials behave, creating systems that reveal the potential instability of seemingly ordered matter. The mutable natures of her chosen medium - primarily beeswax and various common suiting fabrics - emphasize chance reactions and an interconnectedness of process and material. In the body of work entitled the Saturation series the artist suffuses lightweight linen, stretched across wooden frames, with hot beeswax in a one-shot process. The frozen and opaque wax formations sit within a field of raw linen and often reveal the ‘painting’s‘ framing structure beyond the surface. In the Crumple series, the artist takes a sculptural approach to building a surface by breaking it down. Sanders coats stretched linen in molten beeswax. Once cured, the linen is unstretched and the wax broken down by hand in a slow, automatic ritual, at which point the linen is re-streched to create a distressed, textured monochrome field. The intrinsic material parameters determine a process built of instantaneity and chance that investigate interactions through the filter of medium and physicality.
