This event has ended.

On view this summer at Brooke Alexander are four large scale multi-paneled rubbings by Matt Mullican, Roundhouse – Red, 1989, Yellow Generator Room, 1989 and History Over Opera House, 1982-87. Consisting of 20 panels in total, each approximately 10 feet tall, these works are not only impressive in scale, they are conceptually complex and are among the artist’s most powerful works.

Mullican has been creating work in a wide variety of media for four decades and has developed a complex system of symbols and colors to categorize the structure of the world. His examination of symbols and their effect on our perception has been principal in his art since the 1970’s. The palette for all his work consists of yellow, red, blue, black, green and white. The primary colors correspond to different categories of his world view.

Matt Mullican has exhibited extensively in major venues around the world, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Basel, Berlin, Brussels, Munich, New York, Porto, St. Gallen, Vienna, Washington D.C. and Zurich.
