This event has ended.

Nalini Malani was born in 1946 in Karachi before the 1947 Partition of India, and currently lives and works in Mumbai and Amsterdam. She is one of the foremost contemporary artists from India. Her practice utilizes allegory and symbolism to explore issues relating to gender, class, and race in a post-colonial world. Formally, her work spans the mediums of painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and works on paper. This exhibition will feature Transgressions II (2009), a video/shadow play from the Asia Society Museum Collection. This multimedia installation integrates the folk sensibility of traditional shadow plays with new technology, creating a mesmerizing projection of colors and shadows. The exhibition will also feature a selection of Malani’s artist books.
