John Molloy Gallery presents The Willets Point Series by Joseph Pang.
Ever since he arrived in New York as a budding teenager, Joseph Pang has been drawn to the raw beauty of industrial America. In New York City, one of the last industrial landscapes extant is Willets Point, a place that has fascinated Joseph since his high school years when he lived in Queens. This show is Joseph’s homage to its industrial beauty as well as a paean to a vanishing New York. Willets Point, as we know it, is slated to disappear into yet another commercial and residential development.
Starting with raw canvas, Pang applies paper images as well as newsprint along with other paper ephemera before adding oil and acrylic paint. The end result references this part of vanishing New York within its composition of angles and color.
