This event has ended.

Lu Yang Video Room presents six key projects that conjure fantastical, often morbid visions of death, sexuality (or a-sexuality), illness, and neurological constructs of both real life-forms and religious icons. Her experimental works capture an interest in games and virtual realms as sites for imaginative, provocative, and critical possibilities. Lu Yang also transforms the storefront of Ventana244 into a vintage video rental shop.

Cancerbaby (2014) HD video, 02:20 min
Using various mediums, such as animation, installation, jewelry, and 3D printing technology, Lu Yang metamorphosed cancer cells into animated characters in dazzling colors, mediums and formats. The beauty of the characters, typical of Lu Yang’s artistic approach, reveals much of irony and cruelty that must be negotiated in the real world.
UterusMan (2013) HD video 11:20 min

The Cruel Electromagnetic Wave Above Absolute Zero (2012) HD video 04:25 min
music by Tombsound - This project consists of works made using a camera that forms images from infrared radiation. Under these temperature sensing mechanical eyes, substance and flesh, truth and falsehood, life and death, invasion and fusion disappear just like a magic mirror in a release of energy to stop life.

Wrathful KingKong Core (2011) HD video 14:48 min
music by Yao Dajuin In Dharma-ending times, when all living things are unruly, afflicted with hubris, kindness and morality fade, evil and sin prevail, and none comprehend their true nature. This project is a foolhardy attempt to superimpose religious concepts of wrathful deities onto scientific theories of the brain’s anger response mechanisms. Special thanks to Mr.Yao Dajuin for the soundtrack.
