This event has ended.

The gallery is pleased to present Part II of a two-part survey exhibition featuring the work of Raymond Han. In contrast to Part I, which was hosted by the gallery in the fall of 2013 and presented recent abstract and figurative compositions, this installation will reach back into Han’s catalogue. In addition to portraiture and figurative compositions culled from past decades, it will entail a selection of quintessential still lifes, the genre Han is best known for.

Han’s oeuvre spans over four decades. Comprised of floral and object still lifes, figurative compositions and late abstractions, it is characterized by the search for poetry in simplicity. In Han, subjects are rendered with a passion for detail and a unique sensibility for color. Though largely de-saturated, compositions often contain a subtle and yet dramatic color accent. Finely nuanced, Han’s work often draw an aesthetic comparison to a variety of classic references, such as Renaissance frescoes and the works of Giorgio Morandi or Nicolas Poussin, for example. Above all, it is Han’s crisp delineation of objects and ability to employ his signature palette to evoke a mood of calm transcendence that make for a body of work that appears timeless.
