This event has ended.

Salomon Arts Gallery presents it’s first solo show of Brooke Larsen’s recent paintings and other surprises, created over the last five years.

His Art shares a vision of History, Beauty, Craftsmanship, and Americana as these works are about stories and images of a time lost, forgotten or simply ignored. He invites you to smile and laugh a little as you look at these works, thinking about all the memories from his reminiscences of a time long, long ago.

“Remember that reading makes the best images and if Proust had not already used the title “Remembrance of Things Past”, I would have! To follow Oldenburg’s philosophy, “I am for painted art, thumbtack art, sewn art, thread art, photogram art, book art, scenic art, and Brooke art”. At first glance one gets the impression of viewing a vintage poster, but upon closer inspection, the image, like effect of the artwork, shows a surface texture of grids, thumbtacks painted in oil, and the separation of colors and dots optically interacting, creating the effect of an ordered pointillism. Larsen asserts: “putting color on, in dot form, is more exciting than a broad-brush stroke. The dots take on a life of their own, and the resulting color is not something I could preplan, there is always a degree of chance and surprise.” Observing the final outcome, we can perceive his creative process; as Paul Klee once said, “A line is a dot that went out for a walk.”

To understand the source of his inspiration, Larsen builds a solid frame work through a process he has elaborately developed, just like writing a book. He is an avid collector of books and this fascination transmutes words, sentences paragraphs, crystallizing it into his artwork. These are the significant building blocks for his painting structure. He states: “These images are made and constructed by the vibrant colors I choose, and through the energy and the tactile feeling they evoke. The nostalgia of the imagery is a stark, yet balanced contrast to the high tech social media driven world of today”.

Larsen’s images capture a fragment of a time past, voluptuous women modeling suggestive gestures flirting and evoking innocent sensuality.
