Juliette Conroy “Cathedral (Part 1)”
Saint Peter's Church
This event has ended.
Fine-art photographer Juliette Conroy was born in London. As a teenager she relocated to Perth, Australia where she studied art, design and photography at the West Australian Institute of Technology. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
Juliette uses the camera not to faithfully record the subject but rather to create a distortion, an organist wave of shape and color, through selective focus, indistinct images and cropping. The result is an image that, like a memory, is as much about feeling as seeing.
This project, Cathedral, started with documenting the life cycle of one plan in her Brooklyn garden over the course of
a single year; from the first signs of life in early sprint through summer and fall and finally to winter’s decay. These images are the bases for a number of works dealing with the ancient, yet ever-relevant themes of cycles, seasons, color and light.
