“Washington Color Abstraction” Exhibition
The Gabarron Foundation Carriage House Center for the Arts
This event has ended.
This exhibition, curated by Donald Kuspit, unites the original artists of the Washington Color School with contemporary artists practicing in DC today. Both inspired by an environment of bold color and pattern and influenced by the color field teachers of the 1960’s, the artists in this exhibition exemplify identities that are deeply intelligent, original, and rooted in the history of their environment. Their community reflects a deep history, rich with constant dialogue and new ideas.
The works in this exhibition were selected from The Artery Collection, one of the largest collections of work by DC artists. The collection includes over 1000 works of Washington artists from the 1960’s through the present.
