This event has ended.

Any Size Mirror is a Dictator is an accumulative process-based dance-opera. Exploiting dramaturgy and symbolic interactionism drawn from social and political theory, relational aesthetics, and performance-as-art, PPL creates confusions concerning situational action and reflective social theories, transposing ideation directly into performance as learning processes, decision-making procedures, and theory-to-form actualizations.

Two teams of performers will engage in the construction of each live performance. The first team, a “rehearsive” cast of perfomers, uses the opera Book, 41+ fragments of text and memorized choreographic tasks, and scored music. The performance of this material is considered by the artists to be an object in itself, comprising many smaller objects and attempts to close itself aesthetically around itself, becoming “Totally Relational Art” in its dedicated attempts to “accurately reflect” auto poetic cultural components, including definably cause-and-effect (Totally Relational) relationships between bodies, objects, perceived contextual frames, and concepts as scores for best practices. The second team, a “recursive” cast, refracts the material of the first team’s rehearsed opera through a lens of analysis, explication, and contextualization derived from their own enculturated methodologies. In this manner, the work provides a reflexive self-critique to be understood both creatively and politically.

In its final form, Any Size Mirror is a Dictator is an installation and 7 weekends of evolving and always-situational performances through frenetically moving and singing bodies, live music and sculptural props. It forces spectators into experiential paradoxes surrounding relationality and subjectivity, materiality and immateriality, and meaning-interpretation vs. meaning-making.
