“POLISH” Exhibition

This event has ended.

ROX and Wallplay have teamed up to curate POLISH, a group exhibition featuring over fifty artists. POLISH applies pressure to make its point, turning the white box gallery model on its head to explore the friction that art creates in a system of commerce. With the constant pressure to become more ‘polished’, both the gallery and artists rebel in this exhibition with freedom of form; exhibiting all mediums, with texture as the focal point.

In wall-to-wall salon style, POLISH plays across a spectrum of surfaces, spanning carved paper to mirrored acrylic; painted brick to polished marble. The featured artists utilize a range of mediums including oil paint, Nike cardboard boxes, blown glass, agave leaves, razor blades, broken glass, paint tubes, wooden planks, cushion, photography, sound, sandpaper, video and more. It critiques the mechanics of a ‘polished’ gallery space through displaying curated chaos. This extensive group show creates a hypersensory experience overwhelming the viewer.

Both ROX and Wallplay (neighboring spaces on Delancey and Orchard) are known for pushing the limits of the standard gallery model with a multi-platform approach.

POLISH’s opening night will feature a live installation of Charles Eshelman’s ‘Come Clean’ bathtub, a performance by Polish musician ‘Lass’, and exclusive exhibit of dresses by Astier NY and Jordan Doner based on his works featured in POLISH.

Next door, Wallplay’s twelve digital screens will feature a rotating installation of the ongoing campaign of propaganda created for POLISH, rooftop projections and a full takeover of (blank) Wallplay’s concept counter in the street level space with cups that read NO PRESSURE, NO DIAMOND serving Intelligentsia coffee daily from 8am-8pm.

The Lower East Side is known for being rough around the edges. ROX & Wallplay invite you to get your hands dirty- you may be rubbed wrong (or right) against the explosion of textures exhibited in POLISH.
